The USA is home to some of the biggest automakers in the world, and for more than 120 years, American-made cars have been deeply ingrained in the history of the business. These days, some of America’s biggest car brands have become global, dominating several markets all over the world. Some car brands like Ford, Chevrolet, and Chrysler have been around for more than 100 years while other car brands like Tesla are no older than 20 years old.

Ford

Ford sits at the top of any list of best automakers. In fact, Ford is considered the best American car brand in history. The automaker’s origin story dates all the way back to 1903 when Henry Ford pioneered mass production cars through the introduction of many innovations that are still used today by the industry. Ford’s place in automotive lore is secure; it’s the biggest carmaker in the U.S. with models like the Mustang, F150, and Explorer leading the way. Go beyond our borders and Ford also can claim to be one of the biggest carmakers in the world.

Dodge

Dodge started off as an auto parts supplier in 1900 and has become one of the most famous American car brands on the back of a slew of popular performance models it released last century. Nowadays, models like the Challenger and Charger remain popular monikers in the company’s lineup. Dodge has also become a player in the SUV scene with popular offerings like the Durango and the Journey.

Chevrolet

Chevrolet, casually referred to as Chevy, and formally the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Company is an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors. The production line of Chevrolet includes SUVs, crossovers, trucks, vans, diesel vehicles, hybrid vehicles. The launch of the electrically driven Volt was the world’s first mass-produced electric vehicle with gasoline-powered extended range, able to travel 379-miles.

Jeep

Founded in 1941, the Jeep brand is a global icon, recognized around the world for its SUVs and unmatched off-road capability. Jeep’s product range consists solely of sport utility vehicles such as crossovers, fully off-road, SUVs, and one pickup truck. At least two Jeep models – namely the CJ-5 and the SJ Wagoneer – enjoyed extraordinary three-decade production runs of a single body generation. Jeep’s brand heritage, soul, and values are part of a proud legacy that resonates around the world. In lowercase, the term “jeep” continues to be used as a generic term for vehicles inspired by the Jeep that are suitable for use on rough terrain.

Tesla

Tesla is an American electric vehicle and alternative energy company founded in July 2003. From the very beginning, Tesla Motors as a technology company and independent automaker, aimed at eventually offering electric cars at prices affordable to the average consumer. They foresaw the higher efficiency of battery-powered electric cars and used it as an opportunity to break the usual correlation between high performance and low mileage. Currently, its main products include the Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y cars, and rechargeable batteries. Today, it’s one of the most recognized and desirable electric cars in the world.
